Her view...
Jen's side goes here
His view...
Wanted it to be simple and completely unexpected -- tough to do since i also wanted it to be memorable, too. The day started like any other Sunday (the last day of the regular season in which the Eagles needed ABSOLUTELY everything to fall into place... we know how that worked out) we wake up with plans to go for a hike in a nearby mountain that we haven't been to. I take the ring not certain i'll ask, but just in case.
Some really great scenic stops overlooking Silicon Valley along the way to the top. About an hour and half in we decide to stop at a picnic table for a snack and some water. The spot overlooks a big valley and after 5min Jen is ready to go (as usual) but i'm trying to envision how this is going to go down. We were sitting side-by-side (which would have been perfect for me to turn and get down on one knee, but noooo), but she had to stand up for some reason and was now facing me, giving me a hug as i still sit on the bench. So i blurt out something about resolutions for the new year to which she responds, "no, i haven't thought of anything" (not really shocking). She asks if i have any and pulling the ring out of my pocket (my hands behind her back) i respond, "one is to start the next chapter of our lives together... what do you think?" As she steps/leans back she asks, "what do you mean?" to which i respond, "i'd like to spend the rest of our lives together, will you marry me?"
Completely shocked (i think), she doesn't know what to say but is certainly reaching for the ring. I said i need an answer first. She says yes and the ring fits and she loves it. Calling friends and family ensues. We get down the mountain quicker than we probably should have. Planning and arguing (er, loudly discussing) over miniscule topics is now our day-to-day lives.
Short version...
Woke up... went for a hike... stopped at the top... asked... she said yes... done.
